New & Noteworthy: May 19

M.J. Neary announces the publication of her newest novel SIRENS OVER THE HUDSON, set in Recession-era Tarrytown. The book will be released by Crossroad Press in Summer 2017. Congrats M.J.!

Kim Rendfeld will moderate a panel entitled "How Am I Supposed to Write about This When They’ve Destroyed All the Evidence?”, in which the panelists will discuss navigating around research dead-ends.

Judith Starkston will serve on a panel entitled “Mythic Tradition and Legend vs. the Historical Record”, which will discuss shifting the stereotyped expectations of readers to make room for more diverse mythic fiction.

J.K. Knauss will be at the book signing on Saturday, June 24, signing copies of her work.

New & Noteworthy: April 21

If you feel the need for some thrills and chills with your spring thaw, check out Dark Gothic Resurrected Magazine's April issue. J. K. Knauss has a short story, "The Lake," set during the youth of Edgar Allan Poe. There's something for everyone in this issue! J. K. is also preparing for two exciting in-person events for her novel SEVEN NOBLE NIGHTS. On April 29, she will read a brief chapter and sign books at the library in Saint Helens, Oregon, as part of its Spring into Art event. May 3 will find her in Cambridge, Massachusetts, reading, doing Q&A, and signing at the Harvard Book Store. Please stop by and say hi if you're near either one of these bi-coastal events.



RUMORS AT COURT, Blythe Gifford’s third Royal Wedding story, is a May release from Harlequin Historical in the US and the UK. The print copy is available now. The e-version will be ready May 1. Happy St. Patrick's Day from Unusual Historicals!



J. K. Knauss had a great time sharing pertinent medieval Spanish tidbits and dissecting SEVEN NOBLE NIGHTS character psychology with Ed Goldberg at Portland's All Classical radio station. You can listen to or download the interview free at the station's website or at iTunes (March 1 track). 

J.K. will also have a new short story, set during Edgar Allan Poe's youth, in the April issue of Dark Gothic Resurrected Magazine.

J. K. Knauss is proud to announce that she has been granted a residency at the prestigious women writers' retreat Hypatia-in-the-Woods in September. Meanwhile, the Seven Noble Knights book launch continues with a great review by the Historical Novel Society, an interview with the Book Doctors via the Huffington Post, a fun interview with author Seymour Hamilton, and a full-page appearance in the Saint Helens Chronicle. A local book club is reading Seven Noble Knights in February, and J. K.'s blog will be sure to report back on the literary insights and Spanish cuisine. And finally, if you're in Massachusetts on May 3rd, don't miss J.K. reading from Seven Noble Knights at the Harvard Book Store with memoirist Nadine Kenney on a perfect theme for Mother's Day.


Alison Morton's Roma Nova Series I-III set (INCEPTIO, PERFIDITAS, and SUCCESSIO) was released on February 10 at a value price. New & Noteworthy: January 20

A beautiful cover has been released for Blythe Gifford’s RUMORS AT COURT, scheduled for release in print and e-versions in May 2017 from Harlequin Historical. The third Royal Wedding story, RUMORS AT COURT is set in Fourteenth Century England during the events surrounding the weddings of two of Edward III’s sons to two Castilian princesses.  For more on the story, see Blythe’s Unusual Historicals post of January 18.



Michelle Styles' latest book SOLD TO THE VIKING WARRIOR was published in the US on 17 January and will be published in the UK and Australia on 1 February.

Anita Davison's latest novel MURDER ON THE MINNEAPOLIS will be re-released by Aria (an imprint of Head of Zeus) in October 2016. This is the first in a series of five novels featuring the adventures of amateur sleuth Flora Maguire. The second book, MURDER AT CLEEVE ABBEY, is due for release this December, with the rest to follow in 2017. MURDER ON THE MINNEAPOLIS is now available for pre-order at Amazon.

Michelle Styles' novel VIKING WARRIOR, UNWILLING WIFE has been released in Portuguese under the title FORCA INVARSORA, available now in both print and ebook formats.

Lindsay Townsend's medieval historical romance novella AMICE AND THE MERCENARY will be published by Prairie Rose Publications on Feb 25th. The novella is a stand-alone sequel to MISTRESS ANGEL and features some of the same characters.

Heather Domin's recent novel THE HEIRS OF FORTUNE is now available in paperback and ebook through most major book retailers. French and German translations should be available later in 2016.

Unusual Historicals welcomes not one, but two new contributors to start off 2016. Laura Rahme is an Australian-French author who has written stories set in Ming Dynasty China and medieval Venice. Alison Morton is the author of the popular Roma Nova series of thrillers set in an alternate-history 20th century Rome. Both are no stranger to writing stories set outside the mainstream.
